2011 was a lovely year where I got the chance to play some great clubs, meet new people and catch up with old friends. This year I hope to build on that, with visits to the Windmill, Bracknell, Readifolk and a few clubs across the water. See Gig pages for details.

I have been using my Kindle a lot and I really love it. However, I still read paperbacks too and one that really tickled my fancy was “Caravan Hitches” by Mary Lyons.. Caravans are like Marmite, but whether you love or hate the things, this book will keep you smiling through a weekend.

Anyone who, as a child or adult, has spent a holiday in a caravan will quickly recognise the hilarious situations and  empathise with all the characters. You’ll find Lust (Ooh-er!), Mishaps, Disaster and even a bit of Cross-Dressing (I don’t suppose anyone will admit to remembering THAT as part of their holidays!). Together with some poetry and cartoons, this is a delightful book which manages to poke fun in all the right places whilst maintaining a warmth and affection for this perennially popular holiday activity.

Still no news about one of my favourite traditional bands. - Malinky. Have a look at this statement from Steve Byrne and wonder at the fact that even musicians as skilled as them cannot make money (tell me about it!!)
Steve says:
We've had a truly wonderful time in the last couple of years, with around 150 shows across Europe and North America in the 18 months to April 2011. But in that time we've also been away from home a lot, and, in the current economic climate, despite being busier than ever, the band has stopped making financial sense versus the amount of work we have all had to put in, along with the personal and family sacrifices that come with being full-time touring musicians.

Meanwhile, my other old favourite band - the one and only STATUS QUO are touring in Uk and Europe again this year.

I had to laugh at this notice for their gig at Inverness this coming August. The blurb states:
“Please note that if you are buying a ticket for the disabled platform and require a carer, you must buy another ticket for the carer”
.Who’d have thought it, eh?
